Author's Note:This was originally a song that I wrote for fun one time, and decided since I wasn't going to do anything with the song, I might as well use it for my poetry.
You gave me your heart
And you took it away
The dreams I'd had about us
We're bound to be crushed
Someday
In some way
I want to forget you
The laughs we had
Were worthwhile at times
Though the tears I cried afterwards
Made me feel like
You didn't love me
Anymore
It was nice to have you for the time
But obviously
You didn't want me
Take your memories
I don't need them
Because I don't want to remember
What could've been
When you say "The dreams I'd had about us/Were bound to be crushed," I was picturing a relationship in which one person knows from the start that the other will indeed break her heart. (Sometimes in life, that happens.) By the end, however, I can see that she didn't see it coming -- and now the memories are doused with pain.
