Part of Me

Author's Note- I wouldn't say that this song sums up my life, because it doesn't. Katy Perry is one of my inspirations, and she deserves to be recognized for how and what she feels and writes.

Days like this I want to drive away-- When you put me down, I don’t want to be here anymore

Pack my bags and watch your shadow fade -- Leave and watch you crumble

You chewed me up and spit me out - You used me and threw me away

Like I was poison in your mouth - You didn’t need me

You took my light, you drained me down -I was used and frail

That was then and this is now - That was before and now here I am

Now look at me- Look at me now

This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me, no - You cannot do
anything to me because I am me

This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me, no - You cannot do
anything to me because I am me

Throw your sticks and stones - Throw your words

Throw your bombs and your blows - Throw your feelings

But you're not gonna break my soul - You can’t ever get through me

This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me, no - You cannot do anything to me because I am me

Environmentally Challenged

Author's Note: The purpose of this essay was really meant for Social Studies. As I researched, I thought that it was really meaningful and it seems like a good thing to learn about and for you to read as well.

Imagine coming home to having your house destroyed. Demolished. Gone. Nothing left for you to come back to. This is how it would be for the animals if they drilled in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Everything would be disturbed and the animals would feel displaced. They should not drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, because it has an effect on the environment, the economy, and the people.

Looking back at oil spills that have occurred in our nation, we watched the animals struggle being covered in oil, the beautiful water that used to glisten, now black and dull. It even puts an impact on  the people, worried for what could happen. If oil were to be drilled, species could be effected if they get too close and people are risking theirs lives even getting near the animals that live there. Sadly, trees would have to be taken down for the massive machines to get through. Usually before somebody thinks to do something, you’d think that they would care about how it would effect others before it could effect themselves.

Though the environment is a big deal in this whole matter, the economy, where we would need the money from, is too. As the years go on, we are using more oil than we are actually producing. Foreign oils are being used because we don’t have enough. Our nation alone uses 21 million barrels of oil per day. How much do you think is wasted? Drilling in the Arctic would do nothing to lower today’s gas price either. According to ANWR, they don’t even think that there is enough oil to last our nation six months so there wouldn’t be any point in wrecking something just so they can get their, what would seem to be, an ounce of oil in one million gallons.

As Document D, the packet received in Social Studies class, some of the natives that live in Alaska near the refuge believe that it would be okay to completely destroy the land to get more oil because of how it could benefit them in the north. They think that it would get them more attention because nobody really cares about the arctic. Others feel that it is totally wrong because of how it could affect their way of living and they want to keep their so called “habitat” the way it is. Natural.

Drillers should not drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge because of its harmful effects on the environment, the people, and the economy. The next time that you have to make a decision that could potentially harm something, think before you act. Our decisions effect our future.

Bully Free

Author’s Note: Be careful of what you do to people because it could eventually come back to you.  When others are harming you, stand up for yourself.

Picture a bully strutting down the hallway like he is tough stuff. All of the people shoving each other into the lockers in fright, afraid they might be the next one to be picked on. Margot  the main character in All Summer in a Day, knows exactly what this feels like but in a different type of way. Bullying affects many people everywhere everyday. The author of All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury clearly states that bullying is not okay.

In the short story, the main character Margot, gets bullied because she is extremely vulnerable and is afraid to stand up for herself. Because of what somebody so cruelly decided to do to her, everybody else got to see the warm sun that shone against their pale skin except for her. Sadly, Margot experienced the harshness of physical bullying as many people do everyday. Physical bullying is one of the many types of bullying that exists and does more than some think to people.

Most people in schools and the work place figure that bullying is okay. A large portion of the time, bullies don’t think that it does anything to the person but it can hurt them mentally, emotionally, and physically. Some people suffer worse than others. There can be spontaneous or constant attacks. Margot’s case happened to be spontaneous because the bully decided to put her down at that exact moment. Sorrowfully, bullies can get away with these vicious confrontations and there are many painful ways they approach it.

Usually a bully doesn’t have to think about what they are going to say because sometimes being mean is just in their nature. Many people really do notice that someone is being bullied and are afraid to stand up to the person. Alike, Margot’s friends are afraid to approach the person because they could start to get picked on. Teachers and parents aren’t always that observant over the child because the child doesn’t say anything about the fact that somebody is harming them. Coming to the conclusion why that bully can pass by undetected. There are many ways that bullying can be stopped everywhere, but everyone needs to take charge.

Bullying is not okay and Ray Bradbury, author of All Summer in a Day, clearly states that. If there is ever someone that you see being teased or picked on, you need to do something to help that person. Don’t just stand there and be a lost cause, because that could be you too.
