Author’s Note: Be careful of what you do to people because it could eventually come back to you. When others are harming you, stand up for yourself.
Picture a bully strutting down the hallway like he is tough stuff. All of the people shoving each other into the lockers in fright, afraid they might be the next one to be picked on. Margot the main character in All Summer in a Day, knows exactly what this feels like but in a different type of way. Bullying affects many people everywhere everyday. The author of All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury clearly states that bullying is not okay.
In the short story, the main character Margot, gets bullied because she is extremely vulnerable and is afraid to stand up for herself. Because of what somebody so cruelly decided to do to her, everybody else got to see the warm sun that shone against their pale skin except for her. Sadly, Margot experienced the harshness of physical bullying as many people do everyday. Physical bullying is one of the many types of bullying that exists and does more than some think to people.
Most people in schools and the work place figure that bullying is okay. A large portion of the time, bullies don’t think that it does anything to the person but it can hurt them mentally, emotionally, and physically. Some people suffer worse than others. There can be spontaneous or constant attacks. Margot’s case happened to be spontaneous because the bully decided to put her down at that exact moment. Sorrowfully, bullies can get away with these vicious confrontations and there are many painful ways they approach it.
Usually a bully doesn’t have to think about what they are going to say because sometimes being mean is just in their nature. Many people really do notice that someone is being bullied and are afraid to stand up to the person. Alike, Margot’s friends are afraid to approach the person because they could start to get picked on. Teachers and parents aren’t always that observant over the child because the child doesn’t say anything about the fact that somebody is harming them. Coming to the conclusion why that bully can pass by undetected. There are many ways that bullying can be stopped everywhere, but everyone needs to take charge.
Bullying is not okay and Ray Bradbury, author of All Summer in a Day, clearly states that. If there is ever someone that you see being teased or picked on, you need to do something to help that person. Don’t just stand there and be a lost cause, because that could be you too.
