Death Note

Author's Note: Life brings consequences. Think before you act.

I’ll bet that sometimes you have been so mad at someone, you just wish there was someway to make them leave...forever. The main character Light, has the power to do that with the Death Note; there is something extremely important that he must remember. Death Note’s author, Tsugumi Ohba, makes it clear that life has consequences, so you should always make the right choices.

Like many books, Death Note has a few main characters. One of the character’s names in Ryuk and he is a Shinigami also known as a Japanese Death God. Shinigami are a race of  extra-dimensional beings who survived by killing off humans only to extend their own life with the power of the Death Note. The Death Note itself is a character because of its immense power and vigorous effects which if used incorrectly could bring huge consequences. Sadly, the death note landed in the hands of Light Yagami; a brilliant teenager who, with the power of the Death Note, was on a mission to kill all criminals and make it look like it happened on a whim.

While the characters are an important part to a story, the actual Death Note itself and what it’s used for is basically the whole plot line of the story. Light Yagami has a major effect on people’s lives. Literally. He can control whether you deserve to live or die; he can make it a horribly gruesome death or a simple heart attack. Any normal person would be severely punished for that. If you write somebodies name down in the old, dusty pages of the Death Note and how you want them to die next to it, they will die within forty seconds or the time that is written down. Any person that the Death Note’s pages fall into, can see the Shinigami. Light really has to be careful how he uses this vile book because of the major consequences that could potentially take place.

One of the many consequences of the Death Note would be that the malicious user can be tracked. Sadly, you are undercover for basically all of your life because of the mistakes that you made through your choices. Most people usually think through the possible consequences before they take such a vigorous action.

Through the words and pictures of Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba, its makes it clear that you should always make the right choices because life has consequences. The next time that you have to make a decision, large or small, make sure that you have thoroughly thought it through. Or be impulsive like Light. Whichever.

Oh.... How Ironic

Author's Note: This essay was inspired by the ironic mode of literature and trying to explain why the book, Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer, was written the way that it was.



It was a dark night, clouds filled the sky while drops of rain began to fall. Wolves could be heard howling in the distance under the moon that was shining as bright as a Bonn fire.You look out  your window, noticing there is something running across the field. It’s a vampire. The word vampire is extremely symbolic of the ironic mode of literature. The story Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer, explains to readers in several ways through the way that the characters act and the symbolism of irony that it is written in the ironic mode of literature.


In this story, there are many things that really show the symbolism of irony. Ironic symbolism is very dark and creepy, making you feel a bit scared. For example, the setting is really dreary and dull. This is ironic symbolism because rain makes you feel down in the dumps. Also, there is rain all day, everyday. The main character’s personality is very plain and she is always depressed. Depression is key to irony because if the main character is happy and preppy, it makes the whole point of the story seem like something that it really wasn’t trying to go for. Near the end, it is really symbolic because they have to kill somebody; death is basically the main symbol in irony. Victoria, one of the human blood drinking vampires, is almost trying to seek revenge on them. As you can see, more vigorous actions are taken through irony. Though symbolism is awfully important, the events that go on pull the things in the symbolism area together.

No story would be a story without things that happen. In Twilight, there are lots of things that Bella is going through such as moving from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington. She struggles to meet new friends and find a place in the new school. Struggling and being a bit out of it shows strong representation of irony because their is a large sense of chaos. Bella then has to keep the secret that Edward is a vampire from her father; just that secret almost got her killed, which happens to be the main problem that occurred throughout the book. Lastly, the person that almost killed her, ends up dying and ironies always end up in death or loss of sanity. Mainly all of the main character’s struggles help support the ironic mode of literature.

Stephenie Meyers’ book, Twilight, is written in the ironic mode of literature and shows that in several ways. Many ironic dramas could possibly be written in the ironic mode of literature. So remember that the next time that you are reading a short story or a book; look to see if it follows the ironic mode of literature and try to relate to it in some way.

Author's Note: I really wasn't sure what to write about and I asked a friend. She gave me this idea, so that is what I wrote about. This poem is a cinquain.

I had never known anything about Margaret Thatcher until my uncle told me about her. She seemed like quite and inspiration to many people, and especially women. The quote above really says a lot to me because there are many road blocks that might come up in your life. Some larger than others, and you sometimes have to work at something many times before you can actually get it.

126 Hours

Author's Note: This piece was inspired by a Christmas gift I received. I took the place of it and pretended to feel what it would be like.

On average, I take 126 hours to make. I am very small  and when you are done with me for a little while, I get stuffed in a case. I have a plastic bar and then a silver head and then you press my keys and blow. I am very shrill and you usually get the chills when you play me. If only you knew what it was like to be me. If only you knew......

I make beautiful music. Oh my gosh. I just gave you a clue. I have 9 keys in all. I am mostly made of metal and when I am in the cold my inside sort of freezes. You read notes in order to play me. If you play something wrong, it makes me sound bad. Nobody likes to sound bad, so don’t do it to me. All sorts of people handle me everywhere they go. I can be used for a job or just enjoyment. If you didn’t know, I am a piccolo.

I love my new owner, as she is very gentle. She doesn’t every hurt me and she plays me beautifully. Her parents bought it for her and I was expensive. I left my friends at the music store, in the case they are. I wish I didn’t have to leave them but I guess I just am leading a better life rather than being trapped in a case.
